Indonesian Batik Museum

Museum Batik Indonesia

Batik is a cultural heritage from ancestors that has been part of people's lives for a long time. In 2009, batik was designated as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Beyond its unique techniques and beautiful motifs, batik is recognized as a world heritage due to the cultural values and philosophical meanings it embodies, reflecting the life cycle of Indonesian people in each piece of cloth.

With over 800 collections amassed over time, the Indonesian Batik Museum (MBatik) plays a crucial role in fostering a sustainable world batik ecosystem. It serves as a cornerstone in efforts to disseminate knowledge about batik throughout the archipelago and offers access for deeper understanding of this cultural heritage.

MBatik has a mission to enhance professionalism in museum management, community service, and batik conservation through collaborative partnerships with communities and like-minded organizations. Additionally, MBatik is committed to providing opportunities for various groups to learn about, understand, and engage in the production of batik.
